Dr. Harry Benjamin, well-known endocrinologist and sexologist, brought much enlightenment and food for thought in his speech, "The Seven Sexes of Man." He stated that modern researchers have given to the study of sex more obscurity than light. The seven sexes, according to Dr. Benjamin, mean seven concepts of the word "sex" ways of interpreting the term.

The fundamental, inherited sex can be analyzed by the chromosome determinants, familiarly known as the X and

Y chromosomes.

From there it is possible to consider anatomical sex, which consists of all the primary and secondary sex characteristics together, making up the male or female

Third is the legal sex the "nursery" sex determined for each new-born baby. This may not correspond to the genetic sex, for it is subject to change or alteration.
